For those of you asking;
WHAT IS A SONGPLUGGER?

A songplugger is hired by a publisher or a songwriter to represent their songs, (catalog) and the goal is to get those songs recorded by an artist and released on their album. Songpluggers have unlimited industry connections; a great ear for matching the right song to the right artist; stay “in the know” as to the direction of the artist’s project; and attends pitch meetings on a daily basis. A great songplugger is enthusiastic, loves music, and is very much a ‘people person’. They have to Believe in the song enough to stake their Reputation on it with Artists, Managers, Producers, and A&R at the labels.

The reputation of the plugger is built on the back of the songs they bring to the table. A legitimate songplugger will not pitch a song that they don’t believe in 100% - so it’s not about the money – it’s about the SONG.

Songpluggers invest a lot of time and money in their line of work. They have to purchase the necessities of the business such as ink, CDs, CD cases, paper, business cards, and have expenses of paying business related phone bills, subscriptions to various tip sheets & industry news magazines, internet services, faxes, attend artist showcases and networking which involves taking music business contacts out to lunch,…….and so much more that they may never recoup what they’ve already invested. They’ve paid their dues over the years to get them to the position where they can make a phone call to get someone to listen to a song from them.

*Word of Warning when looking for a songplugger: There are some shysters out there so do your due diligence. Check them out and don’t hand over a check just because they tell you your song it is a “hit”. Sadly, it happens daily - Writers, and especially new writers can be so emotionally attached to their songs that common sense sometimes leaves them - They just hand over their money to a stranger, believing that their songs are being heard by the decisions makers when they’re NOT.
Unfortunately any business that has an emotional aspect to it will attract those type of bottom dwellers that prey on the dreamers and unsuspecting. Don’t let it be you.
